La sublevaci\u00f3n en la base naval de Puerto Cabello, en el estado Carabobo, fue dirigida por el capit\u00e1n de nav\u00edo Manuel Ponte Rodr\u00edguez, el capit\u00e1n de fragata Pedro Medina Silva y el capit\u00e1n de corbeta V\u00edctor Hugo Morales.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">El gobierno nacional, al enterarse del intento de golpe, reaccion\u00f3 r\u00e1pidamente enviando efectivos de la Fuerza A\u00e9rea y del Ej\u00e9rcito, quienes bombardearon y rodearon la ciudad. Se produjo un intenso combate entre las fuerzas insurrectas del batall\u00f3n de infanter\u00eda de marina General Rafael Urdaneta y la tropa del batall\u00f3n Carabobo, comandada por el coronel Alfredo Monch, en el tr\u00e1gico sitio de La Alcantarilla.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">El 3 de junio, el Ministerio de Relaciones Interiores anunci\u00f3 que las Fuerzas Armadas leales hab\u00edan puesto fin a la rebeli\u00f3n, dejando un saldo de m\u00e1s de 400 muertos y 700 heridos. El 6 de junio, los l\u00edderes de la rebeli\u00f3n fueron trasladados y cay\u00f3 el \u00faltimo reducto de los insurrectos, el fort\u00edn Solano.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">La insurrecci\u00f3n revel\u00f3 la participaci\u00f3n de pol\u00edticos ligados al Partido Comunista de Venezuela, lo que llev\u00f3 a una profundizaci\u00f3n de la pol\u00edtica de depuraci\u00f3n en las Fuerzas Armadas, enfoc\u00e1ndose en oficiales sospechosos de simpatizar con la izquierda.
